AAU Middle Atlantic District Gets in Holiday Spirit with Heartwarming AAU Cares Event

AAU Middle Atlantic District Gets in Holiday Spirit with Heartwarming AAU Cares Event

On December 10th and 11th the Middle Atlantic District hosted its first AAU Futsal District Championships for U8 to U12 boys and girls. It was exciting for the district to now add Futsal to our growing list of Championships and it was even more exciting to see our district step up and help a beautiful little girl.

The Middle Atlantic added 200 new members and showed them how AAU Cares works. Philomeno Stendardo is a 7 year old with in operable brain cancer. The Make a Wish Foundation has granted her wish of meeting the Pope.

When the Sole Futsal Academy Co-Founders Rob Brown and Charles Ritter asked how AAU works, they found that AAU does care and it all started. They had been looking at joining the AAU but did not know about this program. After seeing the presentation and the roll out of our new AAU Cares program it seemed like a no brainier to put the two together.

“We are happy to help raise awareness and we ask for everyone to #PrayforPhil,” said Rob Brown, Co-Founder of Sole Academy. “The Sole Futsal Academy wanted to help in any way we could and we knew that running a tournament would put a smile on her face."

With the help of the Middle Atlantic AAU and the AAU Cares program we were able to donate over $2,000 to her and her family. They are not asking for monetary donations but they are just asking for people to PRAY!

“I want to thank Middle Atlantic AAU and Charles Sgrillo for helping Rob Brown and myself put this great event together,” said Ritter, Co-Founder of Sole Academy. “Three years ago I met Philamena Stendardo and started training Phil in Futsal. Phil always trains and plays with such a great passion for the game of Futsal and brings an infectious energy to every practice and game that it would spread to all of the other players on her team. The #StormTheHeavens Tournament was our way of showing Phil and her family just how much we care about them.”

“All we ask is that everyone keep ‘Praying and Playing For Phil.’ The Miracle is coming,” said Philomena’s mom Mima.

The Middle Atlantic was honored to support such a wonderful little girl and her family. We ask that all the AAU members who see this show AAU Cares and pray for Phil.
