Salt Lake City to Host Largest Basketball Tournament in Utah History Fifth Annual AAU Big Mountain Jam at South Towne Expo Center
Salt Lake City, UT June 23, 2015 – Jam On It, a member club of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) announced this year’s 2015 AAU Big Mountain Jam will be the largest basketball tournament in Utah history.
Approximately 6,000 players and coaches from around the West Coast and Canada will compete in this three (3) day event. Jam On It brings its hugely successful ‘All Under One Roof’ concept to Salt Lake City’s South Towne Expo Center where thirty-six (36) full-sized basketball courts will be set up all in one location. Due to the huge growth of the event, some off-site games will be played at nearby, state of the art, Basketball/Soccer City Indoor Complex.
Over 6,000 spectators will watch 36 games played simultaneously with 250 scorekeepers & referees officiating 1,100 plus games. 480 Teams will compete in this year’s tourney with 30% from out-of-state or Canada. All the best Utah club and high school teams will be represented. Concession stands, merchandise and vendor booths, including a discount shoe store, add to the atmosphere making it a must see event for any die-hard basketball fan.
“The Big Mountain Jam epitomizes what AAU events are about,” said Dr. Roger Goudy, AAU President/CEO. “Provide quality participation opportunities for players & teams under the management of an experienced staff in a fun atmosphere. This year’s Big Mountain Jam is sure to be the best yet.”
Now in its fifth year, the AAU Big Mountain Jam is also unique in the basketball marketplace – with no games being played on Sunday. Competition runs from Thursday, June 25 through Saturday, June 27.
Matt Williams, Jam On It Owner, embraces this fact, “Jam On It strives to provide the very best event experience to every coach, player and fan in the country. I would like to thank all the teams that support the biggest "No Sunday Play" basketball tournament in the United States.”
The economic impact to the area is expected to be over $1,000,000 million with participants and their families visiting local hotels, shops, restaurants and other Salt Lake City area businesses.
For this year’s event, Jam On It has again partnered with Visit Salt Lake, official area tourism office and SnapSports®, a Utah-based company and the industry leader in modular athletic surfacing.
Founded in 1991, Jam On It is an event organization, whose mission statement is to engage children in fun, competitive play. In recent years, it has perfected the ‘All Under One Roof’ event model and runs the world’s largest basketball tournament, the 1,100 team AAU Memorial Day tournament, in Reno, NV each year.
Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 6 and can be purchased on-site.
