AAU MEMBERS LISTED IN THE AVCA FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL ALL REGION AWARD WINNERS

In Lexington, Kentucky last fall the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 2013 Florida High School Region Player of the Year awards. These awards are voted on by Florida high school volleyball coaches.

The AAU is excited to announce that 18 out of 32 Florida High School Region Players listed, are members of the AAU. The AAU Volleyball Committee would like to congratulate these young outstanding volleyball athletes on this honor. These young ladies have a passion for volleyball and it shines through in their performance on the court. Listed below are the 18 volleyball athletes.

AAU SULLIVAN



Searching for America's Top Amateur Athlete?

The Amateur Athletic Union is searching for America's Top Amateur Athlete. If you know of a Collegiate or Olympic Athlete that demonstrates the qualities of leadership, character, sportsmanship, and the ideals of amateurism – we want you to nominate him or her today. Nominate on the AAU Sullivan Website or on The Real AAU Facebook.


In its 84th year of honoring the Top Amateur Athlete in America, the AAU Sullivan Committee is proud of the history of the award and what it stands for; the AAU Sullivan Award goes far beyond athletic accomplishments and honors those who have shown strong moral character. Past recipients include Mark Spitz, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, Shawn Johnson and Missy Franklin; for a complete list of recipients – Click Here.


Nominate the Olympic or collegiate athlete that you feel deserves this award, an athlete that hold all of the qualities listed above. Who will join the list of 83 outstanding athletes previously awarded the AAU James E. Sullivan Award?

AAU WRESTLING

Attention AAU Wrestlers! The 2014 AAU Winter Youth Nationals are taking place this weekend in Omaha, NE!

Weigh-ins will be on January 10th from 4:00pm – 8:00pm and competition will begin at 9am on Saturday, January 11th.

JAM ON IT HOSTS FIRST MARTIN LUTHER KING TOURNAMENT


Jam On It will be hosting a three day MLK Day celebration tournament in Rancho Cordova, California! The MLK Dream Big Festival will feature more than 60 teams, with ages ranging from 3rd-8th grade, including Division I and II. Teams, mostly from California, Oregon and Nevada, will travel to play in the Rancho Cordova Events Center, a brand new 8 court facility on January 18th and 19th.

Register soon! The deadline is January 11 with an entry fee of $200. The fee includes a three game guarantee with certified high school officials and college regulation size wood floors. If you're from out of town, certain hotels in the area are offering a discounted rate. If you stay in one of these designated hotels, your team will receive a $50 discount on the entry fee!

The Real Deal in the Ville Back for Second Year



The SMAA Trojans will be hosting the "The Real Deal in the Ville" AAU boys' and girls' basketball event March 14-16. The event will feature 3rd through 12th graders in Division I and II. Claude Harold III is overseeing the event and says it is a great opportunity for high school players to jump into the AAU basketball season.

"It's probably one of the best ice breakers, you know before teams get in deep competition in April, May, June, and July," said Harold. "This is probably one of the most competitive events in the nation."


Apparently, many other teams thought so too. Forty teams from Florida, Georgia and South Carolina participated in the event last year and this year Harold has more than 80 teams already registered with over a month left until the registration deadline. Teams this year are traveling from all over the nation, from Houston to New Orleans and even Kentucky and Harold thinks it's because it was such a success last year.


"There were very competitive teams," said Harold. "It was not just the quantity but more so the quality of programs that were coming to the event."


The tournament is partnered with an NAIA school in Jacksonville, Edward Waters College, who lends them the use of their facilities. In return, the tournament donates a portion of the proceeds to the United Negro College Fund.


This tournament is definitely one you won't want to miss, but register soon! The entry deadline is February 21 and has already been pushed forward because of the high volume of entries. The entry fee for each team is $300 and includes pool play followed by bracket play with a three game minimum. The first and second place teams will receive trophies.

Registration for the 2014 AAU Indoor National Championship is now open! This event will take place from February 7th – 9th, 2014 at the University of Houston in Houston, TX. Competition will be available for athletes ages 8 and Under to 18 Years Old.

Gear Up for the War at the Shore!

The Seaside Sizzle 5th Annual War at the Shore tournament is back! Scituate and Cohasset, Massachusetts will host 4th through 11th grade girls' basketball teams as they compete to win the gold!

WatchMevents "Live" present the 2014 Memorial Day Tournament! On May 24th-26th, girls' ages 11U–15U in Open divisions and the 17U Elite division will battle it out in Oregon trying to bring home the gold!
