Anastasia Lux is an AAU Volleyball member who is dedicated to more than the sport of volleyball. She took time off from playing with Team Indiana in February of 2014 to take a trip to Chambrun, Haiti with a mission group from Shelbyville, Indiana’s Crossroad Community Church. The trip was part of a mission to set up medical tents in communities to serve those who needed medical attention. She had previously gone on a mission trip in July of 2013 where she was a part of a group doing a Vacation Bible School curriculum with the children, so going on a medical mission trip was new and exciting for her.
In the picture above, the group is at a school house in a village called Thomazeau. Lux is showing the children the camera on her cell phone and they are all crowded around her trying to see themselves. Lux said her favorite part of the trip by far was playing with the children.
"I took any chance I could to play with the kids. I snuck away and found these beautiful smiling faces who wanted nothing other than to be loved,” said Lux. “I enjoyed every minute of my trip and would do it a million times more if I could."
After going on two mission trips, Lux has learned a lot and has gained a newfound perspective on life.
"One of the major things I learned is to be happy no matter what the circumstances, and of course always be thankful and take nothing for granted."
