AAU Cares Initiative Kicks Off with Donation of Bicycles to Youth in New York City

AAU Cares Initiative Kicks Off with Donation of Bicycles to Youth in New York City

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) launched its new AAU Cares initiative in conjunction with the 86th AAU James E. Sullivan Award presentation at the New York Athletic Club on Sunday, April 10.

AAU At-Large District Representation and Lake Erie AAU Secretary Joe Gura spearheaded the effort, which is designed to allow AAU to recognize and give back to the communities that host events, with assistance from staff at the AAU National Office.

State Senator Kevin Parker of the 21st Senatorial District in Brooklyn assisted the AAU in identifying six underprivileged families in his district to receive brand new bicycles that were assembled by members of the AAU Board of Directors on Friday evening.

The six children and their families were invited to attend the AAU Sullivan Award ceremony after being presented with their new bikes.

The AAU will be adding more philanthropic efforts to their AAU Cares initiative throughout the year.
