Volleyball Nationals Player Blog - Day Two at Nationals

Volleyball Nationals Player Blog - Day Two at Nationals

Written by: Mason Rooney

Day two began bright and early with a 5:30 AM wake up. Our team has chores to do around the house, and this morning Zahria Graham, Paige Mcknight, and I woke up even earlier to complete our duty for the day by making breakfast for the team! After three long matches last night it is nice to only have two games this morning. Our games this morning will be against Magnum from South Carolina at 8 AM and Sky High from Illinois at 10 AM. Today we are playing on court 42 which will be streamed live to the AAU website!! I’m very excited for the day we have ahead of us, and I’m sure great things are to come!

Our first set against Magnum was neck and neck, but in the end we pulled ahead to win 25-23. One of our defensive specialists, Ashley Dean went on a great serving run to bring us back from a deficit. In the second set one of our outsides, Caroline Ostman, had some great kills toward the end of the game to pull our team ahead to win the second set 25-20.

After our game finished we refereed the match between Magnum and Sky High. This gave us a little time to get off of our feet and watch our next opponent. In the second match our other outside hitter, Harley Sebastian, had some really crucial kills to help our team to a victory of 25-19 in the first set. We won the second set 25-19 as well with some great play by our setter, Paige. She does a fantastic job of keeping our offense fast, and the other team’s defense on their toes.

The level of play today was much faster paced, and our game was much sharper. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow morning brings. We begin play at 8 AM, and I’m sure if we continue to play with the energy and discipline we have had over the past two days we will continue to see the results we’re looking for!
