Shaquille Preston has committed to play basketball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga beginning next fall, according to sources.
Preston is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from East Jefferson High School in Metarie La., and played summer AAU basketball for former Oklahoma guard Quannas White on the Louisiana Dynasty team.
Preston had an offer to play for coach Bob Huggins at West Virginia and was being recruited by Cincinnati, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson.
A report in July from the New Orleans Times-Picayune stated that Preston also received interest from Virginia Commonwealth, which is where UTC head coach Will Wade was an assistant before moving to the Scenic City.
Preston was ranked No. 11 in the Times-Picayune's Super 16. He joins Brandon Maxwell as the first players in the high school class of 2014 to commit to UTC. That leaves UTC with one more scholarship to offer for next season because UTC has two open scholarships and Zaccheus Mason is the only senior on the team.
