Baltimore Elite defeated All Ohio Red 16U 58–48 to win the 2014 10th Grade Gold Division Super Showcase Saturday evening at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.
Ohio Red big man Nicholas Ward scored a game-high 15 points, while Daquan Bracey paced the Elite with 13 points.
Baltimore Elite jumped out to a 7-6 lead to start the game. Ohio Red’s James Manns Jr. converted an and-one to tie the game at seven with 2:46 to play in the quarter. Both teams went shot for shot the rest of the quarter, but Baltimore’s Bruce Moore hit a pair of free throws with 0.2 seconds on the clock to give the elite a 13-11 lead through one.
Ohio Red’s Jalen Tate knocked down a three-pointer to open the second quarter sparking a 5-0 run to take an18-15 lead. Baltimore’s Curtis Williams put a halt to the run draining a jumper, and Randy Williams hit a pair of triples as part of a 10-0 Baltimore run to give the Elite a 25-18 lead. Baltimore stretched their lead to 11 points at 34-23 right before the half on a Randy Miller three pointer.
Ohio Red scored six unanswered points out of the break cutting the Baltimore lead to five points at 34-29. Ohio eventually cut the Elite’s lead to two points on a Trey Landers put back with 1:24 left in the third to make the score 42-40, but Baltimore answered with two straight baskets to end the quarter to a take a 46-40 lead into the fourth.
Baltimore’s Khalil Richard opened the quarter with a floater in the lane to extend the Elite lead to eight points, but Landers matched it on the other end to keep the gap at six. Baltimore slowly widened the gap as the went on to win 58-48.
