Lake Buena Vista, FL June 23, 2015 – The nation’s top taekwondo athletes will converge on Fort Lauderdale, Florida from June 30-Juy 4th for the 2015 AAU Taekwondo National Championships.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center will host five (5) days of AAU Tae Kwon Do, all under one roof. Over 1,800 athletes qualified in their state or regional AAU championships for the chance to bring home a national title.
Now in its 25th year overall, Fort Lauderdale has hosted this premier Taekwondo event for the past eleven (11) years.
"I am terribly excited to return to Fort Lauderdale, once again, for the 2015 National AAU Taekwondo Championship,” said Master Mike Friello, AAU Taekwondo National Chair. “The Fort Lauderdale CVB and Sport Commission, along with our hoteliers and local merchants, have been outstanding hosts to our National Championships and annual Team Trials events. So much so, we are expanding AAU event offerings again to them this October when we host our First Annual National Training Camp at the Broward County Convention Center in early October. It just keeps getting better and better."
Four hundred and fifty-five (455) coaches will be on hand to lend support and guidance to some of the nation’s elite Taekwondo competitors.
Also, this will be the third year that a Special Needs Division has been offered. With ParaTaekwondo being accepted into the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, interest and participation for this division is growing. The AAU Taekwondo program is proud to be on the fore front of this initiative. Last year’s event saw the number of competitors double from the previous year with further growth anticipated this year.
“The AAU Taekwondo Nationals Championships epitomize what AAU events are about,” said Dr. Roger Goudy, AAU President/CEO. “Provide quality participation opportunities for all athletes under the management of an experienced staff in a fun atmosphere. This year’s event is sure to be the best yet.”
Spectator Tickets will be available at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center. The event is open to the public with a day pass cost of $15.00 and length of event pass of $50.00. Youth (5-11 years) tickets are $10.00 daily and $35.00 length of the event.
