The first event of May is complete! The AAU Spring Fling II was a total success and we have 22 new AAU Champions over Mother’s Day weekend. The event kicked off Friday evening and ended two days later on Sunday. More than 120 teams traveled to the ESPN Wide World of Sports to see where they stood against the stiff competition.
After a weekend full of tough competition in all 11 divisions, several clubs had multiple teams take home the gold! Florida Future added three first place trophies to their clubs’ collection and Titans Elite grabbed gold in two divisions, along with Central Florida Elite. The top teams in each division received a CONDITIONAL bid to Nationals, meaning they still HAVE to play in their District Qualifying Tournament to validate their bid. There were a few familiar faces around the gym this weekend, with several of the teams in attendance having participated in the AAU Spring Fling I last month. Florida Future 2021 were the 6th Grade DI Champions in both events and Central Florida Elite took home the gold in the 11th Grade DII division at both tournaments. While the South Florida Warriors weren’t about to get the first place trophy this time around, they did grab the silver in the 8th Grade DII division. In all, 49 teams returned after competing in the AAU Spring Fling I!
Though it was Mother’s Day on Sunday, you never would have known. The moms at the gym were too busy cheering and supporting their teams to be upset that they missed out on their Mother’s Day activities. While they might have forgotten the day was supposed to be about them, the AAU didn’t! Check out the video below that features a handful of the moms around the court!
