This year, Kung Fu entered its inaugural year with the AAU Junior Olympic Games. Likewise, two brothers, Nathan and Joel Tansey, made their debut as competitors in the event.
Not only competiting in all the same events but in the same age group as well, the sport has created a bit of sibling rivalry between the two. They traded off who won 1st and 2nd, and both seemed to have the time of their life while competing. "We both push each other to do the best that each of us can. It's a good rivalry," said Joel.
The brothers started with Tai Chi about 4 years ago, then transitioned into Kung Fu about a year and a half ago. Their first trip to the AAU Junior Olympic Games was deemed successful, as they both were able to take home lots of hardware.
Nathan added, "I think [the AAU Junior Olympic Games] was awesome. Lots of cool staff and cool people; it was a great experience."
Although the boys will not be competing in any other Martial Arts events at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, they hope to be able to come back next year for another fun-filled event of Kung Fu.
