At the conclusion of the 9th Grade Division II National AAU Girls Basketball Championship, hosted by the NEAAU District, I observed an outstanding example of sportsmanship, one of the classiest moments in sports I've ever observed. Medals and trophies have all been awarded and the championship coach motioned to the runner up team to join his players for an additional shared photo opportunity where the trophies and medals were awarded, see photo below. Notice the head coach putting the championship trophy aside, the 2nd place trophy remained on the floor and you can see competitors from both teams, arms intertwined, silver and gold medals around the athletes necks, celebrating together, the conclusion of great competition in this National AAU Championship tournament. The respect and sportsmanship demonstrated by these coaches, players, and parents was simply an excellent example of what is right with sports. Congratulations to the Maine Firecrackers-Briggs and the New Hampshire Elite teams on your fine performance, but more importantly, congratulations for providing us all with this wonderful example of sportsmanship and class. To Head Coach Don Briggs and Head Coach Dustin Freedman, job well done, and thank you.
