Can last year’s National Champions claim the crown again this year? With more than 2,100 teams at the 2014 AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball Championships, the battle won’t be easy. Keep reading to find out how last year’s champions fared this year!

Mizuno Northern Lights won the 15U Open Championship last year and were looking for another title in the 16U division this year. They started off strong, winning all 11 of their matches in pool play, earning them a spot in the 16 Open Championship Division. They were one of eight teams to make it to the final bracket, but were knocked out in the first round by Triangle 16 Black, who would go on to claim the runner-up trophy in the division. Skyline 16 RSB Royal took the gold for the 16 Open division and are the new National Champions! Congratulations, girls!

The former 16U Open Runner-Up, Mizuno Sports Performance, didn’t even make it to the Championship Division this year. They placed first in the 16 Open Consolation Division and Triangle 16 Black claimed the runner-up trophy for 2014!

Last year, the 16U Open National Championship game was between Mizuno Northern Lights 17-1 and Legacy 17-1, in which Legacy took home the gold. This year, in the 17U Open Championship Division both teams were in it once again and both started their day off with a bye. This time, Mizuno Northern Lights 17-1 had something to prove and took home the title after Legacy was knocked out by TUVA – 17 Tampa in the first round.

Illini Elite 17 Cardinal took home the runner-up trophy after falling to Mizuno Northern Lights 17-1 in straight sets. Congratulations to both teams and good luck next year!

Last year’s 14U Open National Champion, Mizuno Northern Lights 15-1 had back to back championship dreams and they made it happen! They won every match they played while at the AAU Volleyball National Championships, all in two sets, except for the final Championship Game. They started with a bye going into the Championship bracket and defeated Fusion South 15 Red and Lexington United 15 Black to make it to the Championship Game, where they grabbed the three set win against Asics Munciana Ninjas, 25-21, 25-27, 15-6. Will they make it back-to-back-to-back next year?
