AAU Summer 2014 Preview

It may be warm year-round in Florida, but the real summer is just heating up for the AAU.

Kicking off the summer events is the AAU Gymnastics Age Group Nationals! We’re excited to welcome over 1,400 gymnasts from as far away as California ready to compete July 12-15 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Don’t miss the Parade of Champions and Dance Party June 12th after the last session is over that day! Up next is the inaugural Wood Bat Championships and the first week of the AAU Baseball Grand Nationals, the 9U and 10U Divisions. The events will be kicked-off by the opening ceremonies and parade of champions June 15th, and then at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex June 16-21, 53 teams will compete for the title! Even with AAU Baseball underway, let’s not forget about the 41st annual record-breaking Junior Volleyball National Championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports and Orange County Convention Center being held at the same time. From June 16-24, boys and girls from all over the WORLD will participate in the largest volleyball tournament in the world to date, according to Guinness World Records. Awarded in 2012, this tournament is looking to break the record again with 2,100 teams competing! Don’t miss the Opening Celebration and Ceremony (the LARGEST one yet!), featuring a Parade of Champions. Posting statuses, photos or videos during the event? While the first week of Baseball Nationals completes, the second begins in a blink of the eye. It’s time for the 11U, 12U, and 13U AAU Baseball Grand Nationals! After the tournament is officially started during the opening ceremonies June 22nd, full competition is underway for more teams June 23-28 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. As Grand Nationals begin to wrap up, AAU Wrestling Scholastic Duals gets underway. This is the most teams we have EVER had at this event, with an 11% increase just from 2013. June 26-July 1, 150 wrestling teams and over 3,000 wrestlers will compete for gold at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Next up: AAU Track and Field Club Championships! The ESPN Wide World of Sports will be filled with over 550 track and field participants for Primary Nationals to compete in various events July 4th-6th and 4,500 for the Club Championships July 6th-13th. Not only do these participants come from all over the United States, but Primary Nationals will also see athletes competing from Puerto Rico, and the Club Championships will have athletes from Jamaica, Bahamas, United Kingdom, Puerto Rico AND Canada! The top 8 athletes from the combined results from the Primary Nationals and the top 8 athletes in each event of the Club Championships will advance to the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games! We are excited to see who will qualify! Basketball is back in July and will feature many National Championships and Super Showcases here at the ESPN Wide World of Sports! For the girls, 180 teams and over 2,700 athletes from 8th – 11th grades will compete in the Super Showcases at ESPN Wide World of Sports from July 5th – 8th by invite only, so it will surely be an exciting event with the best of the best competing! Also competing at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in July will be the 2nd,3rd, and 4th Grade National Championships, featuring 40 teams and over 600 athletes! Teams will travel as far as California and Washington to participate in this National Championship from July 2nd – July 5th. July 7th starts the next round of National Championships in Orlando: the 8th grade tournament will bring 150 teams and over 2,250 athletes over three different divisions (DI, DII, DIII). For the boys, July 2nd – 7th, 52 teams and over 780 athletes will compete in the 3rd grade DI and DII National Championship, where over 20 districts will be represented. Then, July 10th – 16th, 8th grade DI and DII will travel to Orlando for their own National Championships with 250 teams and over 3,750 athletes competing! Don’t forget to follow AAU Basketball on social media --> Twitter @AAU_Basketball, Facebook The REAL AAU Basketball, and Instagram @aaubasketball. Last but certainly not least, the AAU summer will wrap up in Des Moines, IA with the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games. The athletes have worked hard to qualify, and from July 23rd to August 8th, participants from all over the United States will compete for the gold in their respective sport! It’s a great way to end the summer, and we can’t wait to see the different posts, pictures, and videos you come up with!
