Gymnastics Joel Ferrell 2013 Award Winners
We are honored to have had in attendance all of the athletes who participated in this year’s AAU Junior Olympic Games. Each year at the AAU Junior Olympic Games we award athletes with an award named after a former AAU President and Vice President of the US Olympic Committee. He was chair of the AAU Junior Olympic Program for many years and was very instrumental in the growth of these Games. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding accomplishments and sportsmanship of an athlete representing each official sport at the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
We proudly present this year’s 2013 Joel Ferrell award to Lauren DeHaan of RAYG Gymnastics. Her outstanding performance at this year’s gymnastics competition has credited her with this accolade. Lauren is an AAU gymnast who has qualified and competed in over 6 AAU national events from Winter Nationals, Age Group Nationals, and the AAU Junior Olympic Games. In 2013 she was the Winter Nationals All-Around Champion in her age group.
Lauren is not only a gymnast but a coach as well and is very dedicated to helping others. Last year after an experience with her sister, Lauren raised money to donate a salon chair to the Devos Childrens Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan so that no patients would have to stay in the hospital and be unable to wash their hair. Her sincere dedication to our program is of great value to us and we thank her and the RAYG Gymnastics club for attending the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games.
