New York Metropolitan District AAU Girls’ Basketball-NEWS

New York Metropolitan District AAU Girls’ Basketball-NEWS

On behalf of the Girls Basketball Chair Jon Lawniczak and myself, we welcome you to a new season of AAU basketball. We assure you that we are working every day to improve AAU in New York so that Girls AAU Basketball once again returns to its place of prominence that it once experienced. Our strategy includes the hosting of highly organized and competitive events at three separate levels so that everyone has a real chance of being successful. We also intend to make this a real event rather than just another tournament. AAU is the largest and most exciting amateur sports organization in the country and we want New York to live up to that reputation.

This year all three District Championships will be held on the weekend of April 25 to 27. Divisions l and lll will be hosted by Lightning and will be held at various locations throughout Nassau County. Division ll will take place at Hooperstown in Mount Vernon.

All participants, coaches and players must be registered AAU members. Please keep in mind that coaches require background clearance that could take up to seven days. IT IS NOT IMMEDIATE. Please take care of that now. We will closely monitor eligibility of all players and coaches.

Playing in the District Championship is an absolute requirement to be eligible to participate in the AAU Nationals. There will be no exceptions to this rule this year.

For further information and to register, call Jon Lawniczak at 315-945-9091 or Jim Fox at 516-351-6642. We will assist you wherever we can so that your team can participate in not only the District Championships but also other terrific AAU sanctioned events.
