Rising sophomore Branden Clemens has been named to the U21 USA national beach volleyball team and is set to compete at the 2013 U21 World Championships. The tournament is slated for June 20-23 in Umag, Croatia, and features 48 teams vying for the title.
Clemens, who is paired with Christopher Long for the tournament, helped the Crimson to an 18-9 record in 2013 and the program's first appearance in the EIVA Championship match. Harvard also spent three weeks in the AVCA Div. I-II poll and earned the highest national ranking in program history at No. 14.
The Carmel, Ind., native averaged 2.33 kps while hitting .255 and adding 1.41 dps. Clemens recorded eight matches with at least 10 kills, including a season-high 19 versus Juniata to go along with a .630 hitting percentage. He registered his first career double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs against George Mason.
Prior to joining Harvard Clemens captured the 2011 AAU Beach U18 National Championship and the 2010 AAU Junior Olympic Games Beach Championships. For more information on the 2013 U21 World Championships, click here.
