AAU Basketball alums taken in WNBA Draft

Lake Buena Vista, Fla.-- Amidst the tragic event in Boston yesterday, there was a glimmer of positive coming from Bristol, Connecticut as the 2013 WNBA Draft got under way at ESPN headquarters.

The Phoenix Mercury took AAU Girls Basketball alum Brittney Griner with the No. 1 overall pick in this years draft. Other alums Elena Delle Donne (Chicago Sky) and Skylar Diggins (Tulsa Shock) went 2-3 following Griner.

In the first round, 11 of 12 draft picks came through the AAU Girls Basketball program. In total, 28 of 36 players taken in this year's WNBA draft played AAU Basketball! What a testament to the talent that comes through the program.
