AAU Baseball Member, Tyler Danish, was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the MLB Draft on Thursday evening. It might come as a surprise to some that the White Sox would choose him as their pick in the second round of the draft, especially considering Danish is a right-handed pitcher fresh out of high school with a three quarter arm slot and a short slide step. The 6’1 righty has already committed to the University of Florida, which could complicate his first season with the White Sox.
Though to some, it may seem that the deck is stacked against him, Danish is proving that he’s worthy of the Major Leagues. Even with his unique pitching mechanics, Tyler was the top rated prep pitcher in Florida, pitching 94 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. Danish played for Chet Lemon’s AAU Baseball program the Chet Lemon’s Juice, which took home the Underclass Super Showcase title in 2012. Out of Chet Lemon’s Juice, Danish was one of the few players who participated in the 2012 Home Run Derby, which he won, giving him the opportunity to go bat to bat with former Major Leaguer Jason Romano in a special bat-off. Danish pitched in the AAU All Star game, pitching his team to a win. Check out the post-Derby interview HERE!
Regardless of what the scouts may think, the White Sox obviously saw something they liked in Danish. Here at the AAU, we are proud to say that another one of our members has worked hard to make their Big League dreams a reality. Congratulations, Tyler, can’t wait to see you out there!
